Hurricane Ida Causes Flooding, Damage, Power Outages in Louisiana

At least one person died after Hurricane Ida struck Louisiana. Ida made landfall yesterday near southeastern Louisiana’s Port Fourchon as a Category 4 hurricane around 1 p.m. and slowly made it’s way across the state bringing high winds and torrential rains with it to areas across the state including new orleans where Hurricane Katrina happened 16 years ago. Prior to the storm Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards urged residents to check on their neighbors and refrain from traveling this morning because of the flooded roadways, debris and downed power lines.

More than 1 million customers in the state were without power as of this morning according to poweroutage.us and among them was all of Orleans Parish which was hit with ‘catastrophic transmission damage”. Ida is now a slow-moving tropical storm and positioned over southwestern Mississippi where more than 130,000 customers in the state are without power.
