EU to Reinstate Travel Restrictions to the United States
The European Union is set to reinstate Covid-19 related travel restrictions today. With the announcement, they could put a halt on nonessential travel from the United States, Kosovo, Israel, Montenegro, Lebanon and North Macedonia. The EU would reestablish Coronavirus travel restrictions such as quarantine and testing requirements for unvaccinated travelers from those countries. The decision to renew the restrictions will become final today if no EU country objects to it.
The European Council previously recommended the lift of restrictions on nonessential travel from 14 countries including the U.S. in June. With the number of Covid-19 cases growing among unvaccinated Americans, cases in the states are hitting levels not seen since winter. Dr. Anthony Fauci said “what is going on now is both entirely predictable, but entirely preventable. And you know we know we have the wherewithal with vaccines to turn this around, we could turn this around and we could do it efficiently and quickly if we just get those people vaccinated.” As of Saturday, 52.1% of the population was fully vaccinated according to the CDC.
