Authorities Investigating Deadly Collision in Lumberton

Officers are investigating after a deadly altercation in Lumberton. Deputies and Highway Patrol State Troopers responded to a traffic collision along the 900 block of old Whiteville Road in Lumberton yesterday morning at 2:06 a.m. 40 year old James Phillips was the driver of one of the vehicles and was found deceased at the scene, while occupants of a second vehicle sustained minor injuries. Officers say the incident occurred as the result of an altercation between the occupants of the two vehicles. Anyone with information is being asked to call the Robeson County Sheriff’s Department.
