Tropical Storm Ida is Expected to Make Landfall in the U.S. This Weekend

Tropical Storm Ida is expected to reach the U.S. Gulf Coast as a major hurricane this weekend after passing by Cuba today. If ‘Ida’ hits Louisiana, it would be the state’s third major hurricane to make landfall there in roughly a year. Ida is currently forecast to make landfall in the U.S. on Sunday which is the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. The storm is currently expected to be a category 3 Hurricane with winds of at least 111 miles per hour when it makes landfall.

Residents in Louisiana and the Florida panhandle are prepping for the storm which could cause life-threatening floods and heavy wind damage. Yesterday, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards declared an emergency in preparation of the storm saying “unfortunately, all of Louisiana’s coastline is currently in the forecast cone. Now is the time for people to finalize their emergency game plan, by Saturday evening, everyone should be in the location where they intend to ride out the storm.”
