Biden Expected to Advise Booster Shots for Most Americans

Top officials with the Biden administration are expected to make an announcement regarding Covid-19 booster shots. The administration will advise that most Americans get the booster shot eight months after being fully vaccinated. The plan would involve administering the third doses beginning in mid-to-late September following authorization from the FDA on Pfizer’s vaccine. The administration is expecting health care workers and nursing home patients to be the first to receive the boosters because they were the first eligible for the initial vaccines. Older populations would be next to get the booster.

The plan is still in the works but could be announced as soon as this week. Federal health officials have previously said that boosters are not needed by the general population. The initial plan is for those who got the Moderna or Pfizer two-dose vaccines to receive a booster. Officials are still gathering data from Johnson and Johnson on their vaccine and they will make a decision on a booster shot once more information is collected.
