Senate Votes 69-30 to Pass Bipartisan Infrastructure Package
Yesterday the Senate voted to advance the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package. In a vote of 69-30, the legislation will now head to the House of Representatives before reaching President Biden’s desk for signature. The bill includes $550 billion in new federal investments in America’s infrastructure over five years but, according to the congressional budget office, it will also add $256 billion to the deficit over the next 10 years. In the deal, $110 billion will be invested in roads, bridges and major infrastructure projects, $40 billion will be allocated to bridge repair, replacement and rehabilitation and $16 billion for major projects that would be too large or complex for traditional funding projects. Also included is $11 billion for transportation safety and $1 billion to reconnect communities as well as improvements to transit and rail, broadband, airports, ports and waterways, electric vehicles, improving power and water systems and more.
