Coronavirus Hospitalizations, Delta Variant Cases Reach Record High

Coronavirus hospitalizations are reaching record highs in parts of the south as states across the country are struggling to fight the Delta variant. According to data from Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. is averaging more than 100,000 new Covid-19 cases each day which is the highest it’s been in almost 6 months. According to Dr. Rochelle Walensky the director of the CDC, “the vast majority of those getting hospitalized with or dying from Covid-19 are not fully vaccinated.”

According to data from the CDC published yesterday, 50.1% of the total U.S. population is now fully vaccinated which includes more than 166 million people. As of yesterday, Mississippi has fully vaccinated 35.2% of it’s residents making Alabama the only state in the U.S. to have fully vaccinated less than 35% of its residents. The CDC also says the seven day average of doses administered each day has risen to 706,323 doses.
