Four Officers Provide Testimonies During Emotional Capitol Riots Hearing
DC Metropolitan Police Officers Daniel Hodges and Michael Fanone, Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn and Sergeant Aquilino Gonell gave their testimonies and shared their stories of being attacked by the rioters. The three-hour long hearing focused on the violence the officers witnessed as the committee prepares to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the insurrection including the role that former President Trump played.
Members of the committee showed body cam footage as each officer testified their own account of what happened during the riots. Both the witnesses and lawmakers became emotional at multiple times during the hearing. Former President Trump and some GOP lawmakers have actively tried to downplay what happened in the months following the attack and some congressional Republicans have suggested there was no insurrection at all and that the rioters weren’t armed or violent.
