Wildfires Continue to Rage in the Western United States
Wildfires continue to rage in the United States. Currently, about 3 million people are under excessive heat warning in parts of Montana, Oregon and Idaho which are expected to end tomorrow. In Montana, a firefighter who was reported missing near the Montana Idaho border has been found safe. The firefighter was working the Granite Pass Complex Fire when he went missing yesterday. He was located a few hours later and was uninjured.
At least 86 other wildfires have charred nearly 1.5 million acres according to the National Interagency Fire Center. This year over 36,000 fires have burned a total of 2,770,000 acres across the United States. An ongoing drought along with the high temperatures are partially to blame for the fires in the west which have threatened homes, prompted evacuations and destroyed structures. Relief could be near as monsoon rain is expected in the region and chances for rainfall are in the forecast for some areas currently experiencing drought conditions.
