Five Members of the Texas House of Representatives Test Positive Covid-19 in Washington D.C.
Five members of the Texas House of Representatives have tested positive for the Coronavirus. Last week, more than 50 lawmakers from the Lone Star State skipped out on a special legislative session to break quorum and stall Republican efforts to pass new election integrity bills. The group arrived in D.C. after leaving on a private charter flight from Austin. Three of those lawmakers tested positive earlier in the week and an additional two have now tested positive as well, those affected are being quarantined and none are experiencing any major symptoms.
Vice President Kamala Harris is not believed to be at risk even though she met with them this week, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin also met with members of the delegation. Members of the group are holding a number of virtual voting rights-related events in Washington D.C. this week in order to put pressure on the federal government to pass federal voting rights legislation. The Texas lawmakers who are currently in D.C. are subject to arrest following their return to the state.
