Democrats in the Senate Strike an Agreement on a $3.5 Trillion Budget Resolution Package

Yesterday, Senate Democrats announced they struck an agreement on a $3.5 trillion budget resolution package. The package is separate from the existing $600 billion bipartisan bill focused on infrastructure projects like roads, bridges and broadband. It is also expected to set the stage for Democrats to pass reform like expanding the Child Tax Credit, offering paid medical and family leave and even overhauling the countries immigration system. It is also expected to include changes to the U.S. Tax Code. Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that the legislation will eventually have the 50 votes it needs to pass in the Senate and added “the budget resolution with instructions will be $3.5 trillion. You add that to the $600 billion bipartisan plan, you get to $4.1 trillion, which is very, very close to what President Biden asked us for.” The package could raise taxes on wealthy Americans and would go beyond traditional infrastructure to include an expansion of medicare to allow coverage for hearing, dental and vision.
