Biden, Harris Met With Civil Right Leaders at White House to Discuss Voting Rights
President Biden and Vice President Harris met with civil rights groups to discuss voting rights yesterday. During the two hour meeting, leaders of eight civil rights organizations urged President Biden to take more assertive action to combat Republican efforts to change voting laws around the country and warned him that time was running short to enact new voting rules to protect Americans. The groups Biden met with included the NAACP, National Coalition for Black Civic Participation, National Urban League, National Action Network, NCNW, Leadership Conference for Civil & Human Rights and Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. The meeting took place a few hours after Vice President Harris announced a $25 million expansion of the Democratic National Committees ‘I will vote’ campaign in a speech at Howard University. Harris said “Your vote matters. Your voice matters. Your will matters and regardless of who you are, where you live, what party you belong to — your vote matters. Your vote is your power. We will not let anyone take away our power and that’s why we are all here together today. We’re not gonna let that happen. And so we need to fight back.”
