Millions under heat advisories as pacific northwest reaches record breaking highs
The pacific northwest is currently experiencing a record heatwave. More than 20 million people are under a heat warning or advisory from the Canadian to the Mexican border along the west coast until at least Thursday. This week, hundreds of records are forecast to be broken with temperatures in the triple digits. Yesterday, the Portland International Airport reached it’s all-time hottest temperature with 112 degrees but that could be broken again this week.
Seattle also reached a new all time high yesterday with 104. Last night, thousands of people across both Washington and Oregon lost power because of the heat. Cities in the northwest are setting up cooling centers and opening senior centers, libraries, and community centers for people to cool down.
