Senate Releases Report Detailing Security Failures Ahead Of Capitol Riots
Det
A Senate report released this morning revealed previously unknown details about the security breakdowns ahead of the Capitol Riots on January 6th. The bipartisan report conducted by the Senate Homeland Security and Rules Committees found that supporters of Former President Trump had posted several violent threats online in the days leading up to the incident. The report also says intelligence officials struggled with how to differentiate between real threats and political speech. In addition to that, law enforcement officials relied on information on past rallies that remained non-violent and worried about the clashes between the groups but did not expect the violence toward the building.
Also in the findings it was revealed that the U.S. Capitol Police’s main intelligence unit ‘was aware of the potential for violence’ before the insurrection and that even though they were aware of the potential for the threat they didn’t get that information to all of the officials who should have known about it. The committee didn’t examine the role Former President Trump played in the riots.
