Hartsville Woman Charged With Homicide

A Hartsville woman has been charged in connection with the shooting death of an 18 year old man. According to the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, 19 year old Cassandra Escobar has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of her 18 year old boyfriend Caleb James also of Hartsville. Yesterday, Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee ruled James’ death a homicide after a month long investigation. On May 13th, officers were called to White Sands Circle near Hartsville around 10 p.m. in reference to a ‘male shooting himself’. Deputies said Escobar told them James was ‘playing with his gun and accidentally shot himself’ but the coroner has concluded James had been shot by another person.
