Covid-19 Case Numbers Continue To Fall As Experts Urge Teens To Get Vaccinated
Covid-19 cases continue to fall in the United States. But even with the fall in cases, experts are continuing to focus on vaccinating young Americans. Associate Medical Director of Pediatric Infection Control at UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland Dr. Amy Edwards said “the truth of the matter is, kids wouldn’t have to get vaccinated if all the adults would” and added “we know that a huge chunk of adults aren’t going to get vaccinated, and that leaves some kids vulnerable, and that’s why they need the vaccine.”
The FDA has approved the Pfizer vaccine for people who are 12 and older. Moderna and Pfizer have started testing vaccines in children 6 months to 11 years and Johnson & Johnson is currently testing it’s vaccine in kids ages 12 to 17. Currently there are 12 states where at least 70% of adults have at least one dose of the vaccine. Recent data shows, 62.8% of the adult population in the U.S. has received at least 1 dose and more than 133.5 million Americans are fully vaccinated. Earlier this week, President Biden announced his goal of having 70% vaccinated and 160 million adults fully vaccinated by his July 4th deadline.
