Biden Administration Suspends Oil Drilling Leases In Alaska

Yesterday the Biden administration suspended oil drilling leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. A senior official confirmed the White House suspended the leases and erased yet another environmental policy move left over from the Trump administration.  Earlier this year, Biden issued an executive order that called for a moratorium on those leases while a review was being conducted. According to that order, the President said there were “alleged legal deficiencies underlying the program” and that it needed to be investigated.

Former President Trump began the leasing process for the drilling sites in the wildlife refuge and faced scrutiny by environmental groups for the decision. Since taking office, President Biden cancelled the Keystone XL Pipeline and the United States has returned to the Paris Agreement which calls for limiting global warming. Former President Trump pulled us out of that agreement last year.
