Hurricane Season Begins Today, Amazon Announces New Disaster Relief Hub

Hurricane season in the Atlantic began today and the U.S. has already had it’s first named storm. Subtropical storm Ana formed on Saturday morning and became the first named storm of the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season. This year marks the 7th year in a row where at least one storm formed prior to the start of the official season. Over the past 6 years, there have been over 8 preseason named storms, four of which made landfall in the United States. Ana is not expected to do so.

Today, Amazon announced plans for a brand new disaster relief hub in Atlanta Georgia. The company hopes that the new hub will help with the response to natural disasters quickly and effectively. For the hub, the company is also partnering with six global humanitarian aid organizations which includes the Red Cross who will be able to get resources to places like Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Latin America, the Caribbean and even rural areas in the United States. The hub will stock over half a million donated relief supplies which is enough to fill an Amazon Air 767 Airplane to deliver goods to affected areas.
