San Jose Shooting Victims Honored, Gunman Obtained Weapons Legally

The 9 victims of the San Jose shooting were honored last night as their uniform caps and pictures were on display at the San Jose City Hall Plaza. The victims range in age from 29 to 63 and were coworkers at the VTA facility where another employee Samuel Cassidy opened fire using multiple weapons early Wednesday morning. VTA operator Kenneth Darden said the employees knew each other well and added “I don’t think we’ve actually been able to come together as a nation and understand the significance of gun violence and how it has impacted so many families across the nation for so many years.”

According to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, the gunman was armed with three semi-automatic handguns and 32 high-capacity magazines at the time of the shooting. The weapons were legally obtained and registered. FBI San Francisco Special Agent in Charge Craig Fair said he believes all the handguns were used during the attack and noted that one of the weapons jammed during the shooting. A witness said he targeted certain people and walked by others before he took his own life. Federal investigators haven’t found any evidence to indicate a motive but say he was ‘highly disgruntled’. Detectives are conducting interviews and reviewing evidence in hopes of officially determining a motive.
