Myrtle Beach Prepared To Welcome Crowds For Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend begins tomorrow and it’s looking like it will be the type of boost the hospitality industry needs after last year’s pandemic! Forecast data from the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce shows the number of people staying along the beach may be higher than both 2020 and 2019! The Chamber sampled around 3,000 rental units through Horry County and 90% of them are expected to be full on Saturday and Sunday. The next 2 months are trending 20.4% higher than in 2019 and last week traditional hotels were 62% more full than the same week last year, vacation rentals were also about 160% more full!

Just as a reminder: The Memorial Day traffic plan will begin at 6 a.m. tomorrow! Barricades will be up along Ocean Boulevard making it a one-way route Southbound from 29th Avenue North to 29th Avenue South. A sidewalk ordinance will also be in effect along Ocean Boulevard, the city won’t be using the loop this year. 300 extra officers will also be coming in from various departments to assist the MBPD.
