Governor Henry McMaster Signs Beach Parking Bill Into Law
Yesterday Governor Henry McMaster signed a bill into law to require beach towns to get permission from the state to change parking along state roads. The bill will ultimately prohibit towns from eliminating free parking spots along the roads unless approved by officials from the state. It will also require that fees charged by beach towns for parking offset the amount spent to provide services to visitors. Most of the provisions were already signed in state law but supporters urged McMaster to clarify it after places like Isle of Palms and Folly Beach banned free parking after the Governor ordered beaches to reopen last spring.
