Biden Administration Announes Counteroffer To Original Infrastructure Bill

On Friday, the White House announced President Biden’s slimmed down counteroffer to his Infrastructure Bill. The new plan would reduce the size of the President’s initial ‘American Jobs Plan’ proposal from $2.25 trillion to $1.7 trillion. The new plan will remove the manufacturing, research and development and innovation elements of the previously announced bill and pursue them in separate legislative processes. President Biden will also accept the GOP’s proposed funding level of $65 billion for broadband investments instead of the $100 billion his original plan called for. He’s also willing to reduce the request for $159 billion in funding above current levels in roads, bridges and major infrastructure projects to only $120 billion instead. The White House is also interested in working to find common ground on several other parts of the initial proposal.
