A $1.7 Billion Road Project Is Expected To Begin Soon In Columbia
A $1.7 billion road project is expected to begin soon. It’s the first of the five part project to untangle the intersection of Interstates 20, 26 and 126 west of downtown Columbia. The South Carolina Department of Transportation estimates that drivers spend around 112 hours each year stuck in traffic along the highways. Construction will begin next spring and it will redesign parts of I-26 and I-126 which includes the Colonial Life Boulevard Exit. The more complex phase of work on the I-20, I-26 and I-126 interchanges is scheduled to start in 2023. The project called ‘Carolina Crossroads’ is expected to take 8 years to complete and should be done by 2029.
