May’s “Read Carolina” Book Club Picks!
In honor of Mother's Day, we've brought you two novels that are both about mothers and the lengths they will go to for their daughters.
For May, our producer Olivia Breen chose two novels in honor of Mother’s Day this weekend! “Girls With Bright Futures” by Tracy Dobmeier and Wendy Katzman is this month’s main pick. The book follows the lives of three completely different women who all have daughters attending the same private school as seniors. All three girls, for different reasons, want to go to Stanford. The only problem is that Standard is only accepting one more student. This book was inspired by the real-life college admissions scandal and co-written by two moms who are also best friends. Full of drama, lust, surprises, scandals and so much more, anyone who enjoyed books such as “Big Little Lies” will love this pick.
As the honorable mention, we have “Of Women and Salt” by Gabriela Garcia. This beautifully haunting saga spans centuries, following the lives of several women from two different families. Told non-linearly, from 1800’s Cuban cigar factories to present day detention centers in Texas, this books discusses topics of immigration and the hard choices mother must make for their children.
You can purchase “Girls With Bright Futures” at Amazon or Barnes and Noble. You can also find “Of Women and Salt” at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. If you join our monthly book club, please let us know what you think!
