Lawyer for Derek Chauvin Files Motion for New Trial

This comes two weeks after Chauvin was convicted on three counts for the death of George Floyd.

A lawyer for Derek Chauvin is filing a motion for a new trial. This comes two weeks after Chauvin was convicted on three counts for the death of George Floyd. Eric Nelson filed the motion citing several reasons including that the verdict is quote “contrary to law.” Nelson also made allegations of jury misconduct, witness intimidation, the impact of publicity and more. The lawyer also said the court ‘abused its discretion’ in not granting a change of venue. Overall, the motion alleges eight abuses of discretion by the court. But, John Stiles, Deputy Chief of Staff for Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison responded saying “the court has already rejected many of these arguments and the state will vigorously oppose them.” So far, there’s no word on when the judge will respond to the motion for a new trial.
