An update on the 13-hour standoff in North Carolina we told you about yesterday…the victims have been identified. Sergeant Chris Ward, K-9 Deputy Logan Fox, 61 year old Michelle Ligon, 58 year old George Ligon and the gunman 32-year-old Isaac Barnes died during the standoff. Barnes was Michelle’s son and George’s stepson. He is believed to have died by suicide. Sergeant Ward was an 8-year veteran and Deputy Fox had been with the sheriff’s office for 2 years.
According to Watauga County Sheriff, Len Hagaman, Sergeant Ward and Deputy Fox went to a home in Boone around 9:45a.m. on Wednesday on a welfare check after someone reported that the homeowner and his family hadn’t shown up for work or answered any phone calls. When deputies entered the home they were immediately fired upon. A Boone police officer was struck in the initial attempt but was uninjured because he was wearing a helmet. Ward died after he was taken to Johnson City Medical Center in Tennessee. Fox died at the scene.
