NASA Apollo 11 Astronaut Michael Collins Has Died At The Age Of 90

NASA Apollo 11 Astronaut Michael Collins has died at the age of 90. His family shared the news of his passing on his Facebook page saying  “We regret to share that our beloved father and grandfather passed away today, after a valiant battle with cancer.” Collins spent his final days with his family by his side. He was born in Italy, became an Air Force Pilot and then an Astronaut in the Gemini Program. He piloted the command module when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took the historic first steps on the moon and according to NASA was the 3rd Astronaut to perform a space walk. Collins logged 266 total hours in space. Acting NASA Administrator Steve Jurczyk released a statement saying “His own signature accomplishments, his writings about his experiences, and his leadership of the National Air and Space Museum helped gain wide exposure for the work of all the men and women who have helped our nation push itself to greatness in aviation and space.”
