Protests Continue In North Carolina After Fatal Shooting
Protesters gathered in Elizabeth City North Carolina again last night to demand the release of body camera footage of the fatal shooting of 42 year old Andrew Brown Jr. Yesterday, the family and lawyers of Brown were shown footage but according to Attorney Chantel Cherry-Lassiter the clip was only 20 seconds long. Authorities say they are prevented from making the footage public without court order. After seeing the footage, Brown’s son Khalil Ferebee said “We got a little bit of evidence, but that wasn’t enough for us, we’re heartbroken.” In a video posted to Facebook Pasquotank County Sheriff Tommy Wooten II said there were many body cameras at the scene but the incident was quick and over in less than 30 seconds.
Last Wednesday, Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Deputies were serving an arrest warrant on Brown when he was fatally shot. Attorney’s for Brown’s family held a press conference today to reveal the results of an independent autopsy. It showed he was shot four times in the right arm and once in the back of the head. Seven deputies have been placed on administrative leave after the shooting, two resigned and one retired. Wooten said not all deputies on leave discharged their weapons but they were part of the operation.
