Former Darlington County School Resource Officer Charged With Assaulting Student
A former Darlington County School Resource Officer has been charged with assaulting a student. According to SLED, 57 year old William Sumner grabbed a student by his clothing, lifted him from a chair in an office, and shoved him against a wall last Friday during a verbal altercation at Lamar High School according to an arrest warrant. He was booked at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center for third-degree assault and battery along with misconduct in office and has been released on a $5,000 bond. The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office made the request for the SLED investigation. Sumner worked with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office between 2014 and Monday when he was fired.
