NASA’s Mars Helicopter ‘Ingenuity’ Makes History
NASA’s Mars helicopter ‘Ingenuity’ has successfully completed it’s first flight. According to NASA the first controlled flight on another planet took place at 3:34 a.m. Live coverage of the event began on NASA’s website this morning and the confirmation of the flights success was released at 6:46 a.m. A post flight briefing is scheduled for this afternoon.
Mimi Aung, Ingenuity Project Manager at JPL said “we can now say that human beings have flown a rotorcraft on another planet.” She added “we’ve been talking about our Wright brothers moment on another planet for so long. And now, here it is.” The flight was originally scheduled for April 11th but was postponed when a command-sequence issue was discovered during pre-flight checks.
