Body Camera Footage Has Been Released In The Death Of 13 Year Old Adam Toledo
In Chicago, authorities have released the body camera footage of an officer who killed 13 year old Adam Toledo after he was seen holding a handgun at the end of a foot chase on March 29th. The gun was recovered a few feet from the Toledo’s body and his hand and gloves tested positive for gunshot residue. The officer who fired his weapon was identified as 34 year old Eric Stillman. In addition to the body camera footage, surveillance videos from a nearby school and church were also released by the Chicago Police Department. During the encounter, Toledo was found with 21 year old, Ruben Roman, who was arrested on felony charges of reckless discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and child endangerment. Yesterday afternoon, Chicago’s Mayor, Lori Lightfoot, released a joint statement with Toledo’s family and held a press conference where she called the video “difficult to watch.” Meanwhile, Timothy Grace, a union lawyer representing Stillman, said the case was tragic but his client was placed in a situation where he was quote “left with no other option.” Last night, protests erupted across the city in support of Toledo after the footage was released, more protests are expected tonight.
