U.S. Reaches New Covid-19 Vaccine Milestone, Cases On The Rise
The United States has reached another Coronavirus vaccine milestone. On Saturday, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported that a record-high 4.6 million doses of vaccines were administered in a single day. Which is 500,000 more than the old record the previous Saturday. But, according to the CDC data published Saturday, more than 75% of the U.S. population still isn’t fully vaccinated. According to CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walenky, for the third straight week new cases and hospitalizations have increased.
The B.1.1.7 variant is not only more contagious than the original strain but it’s currently the dominant strain in the U.S. It might cause more severe disease and may also be deadlier. According to Johns Hopkins University, in the past week the U.S. averaged more than 68,000 new cases each day. Nationwide, more American’s age 18 to 64 have gone to the emergency room for Covid-19 complications according to Walensky and the trends are magnified in the Upper Midwest.
