President Biden Takes First Executive Actions On Gun Control
Yesterday, President Biden announced a set of executive actions and legislative proposals on gun control. He asked the Justice Department to propose a rule within a month to stop ‘ghost guns’ which are ‘kits’ people can buy legally then fully assemble to create a functioning firearm that doesn’t have a serial number. He also asked the DOJ to propose a rule on braces used for handguns which make them more accurate, and proposing action on ”community violence intervention” within 60 days.
He also asked the DOJ to publish suggestions for ‘red flag’ legislation and asked his administration to issue a report on gun trafficking. During the conference yesterday, President Biden announced David Chipman as the Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. A senior administration official said Chipman will respect the Second Amendment while enforcing gun laws.
