MLB Moves All Star Game Out of Georgia Over Voter Restrictions

Major League Baseball is moving its All-Star game to Colorado, in response to Georgia’s controversial new voting restrictions. The annual game is typically held at the Atlanta Braves Truist Park stadium, in addition to other activities, including the annual MLB draft. But now, it will be held at the Colorado Rockies Coor’s Field in Denver. The MLB has not offered an official statement on the move but, commissioner Robert Manfred Jr. said the All-Star game had to be taken out of Georgia to quote “demonstrate our values as a sport” after Georgia republicans passed restrictive changes to the state election process. The new law, signed by Governor Brian Kemp, adds restrictions, including requiring identification for mail in voting and making it illegal to take food or water to voters in line. Kemp says the law is “common sense” legislation. In response, Manfred said “Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box.”
