Derek Chauvin Trial Day 4 Recap

Yesterday, during the fourth day of the Derek Chauvin trial, George Floyd’s ex-girlfriend was among the many to take the stand. 45 year old Courteney Ross recalled how she met Floyd, outlined their relationship and shared information about their history with narcotics addiction. She said they grew addicted to Opioids after initially being prescribed them for pain. She and Floyd used drugs on and off throughout their three-year relationship. She said they also took prescriptions of other people and illegal drugs. An autopsy found Fentanyl and Methamphetamine in Floyd’s system at his time of death.

She said she and Floyd purchased narcotics from a man named Morries Hall. Hall was the passenger in Floyd’s car when Police approached him after they responded to a call about someone using a counterfeit $20 bill. Hall was expected to be a key witness in the investigation but in papers filed Wednesday, Hall said he would invoke the Fifth Amendment if called to testify.  Yesterday afternoon, several first responders testified saying Floyd appeared dead when they arrived at the scene and a video of Chauvin’s call to Sergeant David Pleoger, his supervisor, was played.
