Third Major Lawsuit Filed Against Former President Trump For Injuries Suffered During January 6th Riots
Two U.S. Capitol Police Officers who were injured during the riots on January 6th are suing former President Trump for inciting the crowd. The officers say they suffered physical and emotional damage because Trump “inflamed, encouraged, incited and directed” the mob to storm the Capitol. Capitol Police Officers James Blassingame and Sidney Hemby have been with the force for a combined 28 years and say they were injured during the attack. The lawsuit says Hemby was ‘crushed against the doors of the Capitol’, ‘sprayed with chemicals’ and bled from the face.
Blassingame claims he was slammed against a stone column and suffered head and back injuries, he is ‘haunted by the memory of being attacked’ and suffers from depression. Each Officer is seeking at least $75,000 in damages. This is the third major civil lawsuit that is trying to hold Trump liable for the insurrection. The former President hasn’t responded to the lawsuit.
