7 People Died After Flooding Ripped Through Tennessee Over the Weekend
At least seven people have died after heavy rainfall and flooding swept through Tennessee over the weekend. Yesterday, the Tennessee Department of Health confirmed that five people died in Davidson County which is home to Nashville. At least one died in Cheatham County and another in Hawkins County. Each of the deaths were considered weather-related fatalities. During a press conference on Sunday, Mayor John Cooper said Nashville received over 7 inches of rain over the weekend which is the second highest two-day rainfall total ever recorded in the city.
At least 130 people had to be rescued from cars, apartments, and homes in the area. According to the National Weather Service, many rivers and creeks were at or near their highest levels since 2010. Damage assessments are ongoing and several roadways remain closed. Meterologists are still predicting more heavy rainfall over the next few days and a flash flood watch has also been issued through Thursday.
