Boulder Shooting Update: Ahmad Alissa Appears In Court And Vigils Are Held For The Shooting Victims
The suspect of the Boulder Colorado shooting made his first court appearance today. 21 year old Ahmad Alissa is accused of opening fire outside and inside the King Sooper store on Monday afternoon and killing 10 people including a police officer. Alissa was arrested after surrendering in the store after the incident. According to a Boulder County arrest warrant, he faces 10 charges of murder in the first degree and one charge of attempted murder. Today’s court hearing lasted less than ten minutes with Alissa’s attorney asking the judge for more time to assess the nature and depth for her client’s mental illness. Investigators are trying to piece together a motive in the shooting and are trying to figure out why it happened in that particular spot. Alissa’s home is about 30 minutes from the store and other grocery stores are closer to the residence. Investigators suspect the attack was planned because the suspect purchased the assault pistol used in the shooting about 6 days prior. The FBI is looking at his online activity and conducting interviews with his friends and family members. The victims were honored with a vigil last night.
