Authorities Concerned Johnson and Johnson May Not Reach Goal
Members of Biden’s Administration are concerned that Johnson and Johnson may not meet it’s 20 million goal by the end of the month. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted Johnson and Johnson’s Coronavirus vaccine emergency use authorization almost a month ago but the company has been struggling with production, was slow submitting paperwork, and failed to meet production timelines laid out by the contract with the federal government. There are just a handful of days left for the company to deliver almost 14.8 million vaccines. The Johnson and Johnson vaccine has multiple advantages over the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines and one of the most notable is that it requires only one dose instead of two and lasts for three months in the refrigerator as opposed to being frozen. The U.S. government signed a $450 million contract with the company for vaccine research and development last spring. In August, the federal government announced it would pay the company $1 billion for 100 million doses of it’s vaccine. Under that contract, Johnson and Johnson was scheduled to have 37 million doses ready by the end of March and 100 million by the end of June. They told CNN it is still on track to meet the March deadline.
