Final House Vote on Coronavirus Relief Bill May be Delayed

The U.S. House of Representatives is preparing to convene once again to vote on the coronavirus relief bill. The House voted in favor of passing President Biden’s nearly $2 trillion American rescue plan weeks ago. But they must vote on it for a final time after it made it’s way to the Senate where several significant changes were made. This includes tightening eligibility requirements for the $1,400 individual stimulus checks, trimming the federal boost to unemployment benefits and excluding an increase in the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. The House was expected to vote on the revised legislation today, but now we’re hearing reports that the vote may not happen until tomorrow. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer blamed the delay on the Senate, saying they were working to get the bill ready as soon as possible, but it was taking longer than expected. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi assured the final vote will come by the latest tomorrow morning, depending on when they get the bill back. The package is expected to pass and will then head to President Biden’s desk for signing.
