Controlled Burns Being Conducted in Horry County Through the Week

If you’re seeing haze in the air or smelling smoke, don’t worry. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources began a series of controlled burns along International Drive yesterday. They are expected to continue through this Friday but could be subject to change based upon the most current weather forecast. During those times, International Drive will be temporarily closed between SC 90 and Ocean Bay Elementary School. Alternate routes include U.S. 501 and SC 22. By burning flammable debris on the forest floor in a controlled environment, it can help prevent uncontrollable forest fires.
