Williamsburg County Police Respond to Bomb Threat on Amtrak Train

The Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office responded to a bomb threat on an Amtrak train bound for New York this weekend. An Amtrak representative called deputies yesterday to report that they’d received a threat about an explosive device on train 98. When the train stopped at the Kingstree Station, several law enforcement agencies were there ready to evacuate passengers, bring them to a safe location, search the train with the help of bomb dogs, and defuse the explosive if necessary. The train was cleared and passengers were safely returned for boarding. An investigation into the incident is now underway.
