Biden Called off Second Airstrike Against Iraq Last Week
It’s just been revealed that President Biden called off a second air strike against Syria last week at the last minute. A senior administration official confirmed the news, adding the reason behind the decision was because women and children had been spotted in the area just prior to. Because of that, only one target was bombed last week. Multiple buildings were destroyed and at least two confirmed dead. It was said to be a “proportionate” retaliation strike after Iranian-backed militias ordered rocket attacks on a U.S.-led coalition. Since then, an Iraqi base housing U.S. troops also came under attack. This was several days ago at a base that had previously been targeted last year. Fortunately, no injuries or deaths were reported. While U.S. Pentagon officials say it’s likely Iranian-backed militia to blame, they are not ready to confirm it. Despite the ongoing controversy, Pope Francis arrived in Iraq today. It’s his very first visit to the country, as well as the first trip he’s made since the pandemic began.
