Biden Approves Narrowing American’s Eligibility to Receive Stimulus Relief Checks

In an effort to reach some sort of bipartisan compromise with Republicans, President Biden has agreed to tighten eligibility requirements for the coronavirus stimulus relief checks. The Senate is currently debating the president’s $1.9 trillion relief package which just passed in the House last week. Among it’s most promising provisions was one for another round of individual stimulus checks for Americans. Initially, anyone earning $75,000 or less would be eligible for the fully promised $1,400 payment. Those payments would then slowly be phased out for individuals earning between $80,000 – $100,000, and couples earning between $160,000 – $200,000. However, that all may change now. President Biden appears to have endorse a plan suggested by more moderate Democrats which narrows the income eligibility requirement. The new proposal would phase out the payments quicker and have more strict cut offs, disqualifying any individuals making over $80,000 a year or more and couples making $160,000 a year or more. Despite the president’s best efforts, it seems neither progressive Democrats nor Republicans are happy yet.
