Missile Attacks Carried Out on Iraqi Airbase Housing U.S. Troops

An Iraqi airbase housing U.S. troops was the target of multiple rocket attacks yesterday. This comes a week after President Biden ordered several airstrikes on buildings in Syria housing Iranian-backed militias. Multiple facilities were destroyed and two deaths confirmed. The first-known use of military force by President Biden was said to be a “carefully calibrated,” “proportionate” and “defensive” move by the U.S. after three rockets attacks were carried out in Iraq, including one fatal hit on a U.S.-led coalition base. U.S. military officials said they expected possible retaliation after last week’s events and their suspicions were confirmed yesterday. At least 10 rockets struck the military base which was hosting American troops. As of now no deaths or injuries have been reported. This was the same base which was targeted last February and led around 100 soldiers to sustain head injuries. As an investigation into the attack is conducted, it’s unclear if President Biden will once again retaliate.
