Fraternity Faces Consequences After Virginia Student Found Dead

A 19-year-old college student from Virginia was found dead over the weekend. Freshman Adam Oakes had been offered a bid to join the fraternity Delta Chi at the Virginia Commonwealth University. He had gone to a party Friday evening to begin his initiation process. The following day, police were called to an off-campus house where they found Oakes unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene, about a mile away from the fraternity house. While the cause of death has yet to be determined by a coroner, and police and university officials refuse to comment on how Oakes died, people are speculating his death was likely the result of a hazing ritual. Law enforcement say the investigation is ongoing. The VCU fraternity has already been suspended by the university, as well as the national Delta Chi organization. As of yesterday, all their social media accounts, websites and associated university pages have also been taken down.
