Myrtle Beach Declares March 1st ‘Covid-19 Victims and Survivors Memorial Day’

The city of Myrtle Beach is among several groups across the nation who are recognizing today as ‘Covid-19 Victims and Survivors Memorial Day.’ This comes almost one year after the first-known coronavirus-related death in the U.S., which has since soared to a staggering over half a million deaths. In order to recognize those who have been affected by the pandemic and to honor health care workers, several communities and organizations have declared March 1st to be a day of remembrance. This includes Myrtle Beach. The city council passed a proclamation which was then signed by Mayor Brenda Bethune last week. More than a hundred similar events will take place across the U.S. today. Some people are even working to have today declared a permanent national holiday and have official memorials established.
