President Biden Visits Texas Today Following Deadly Winter Weather

Happening today: President Biden will visit the great state of Texas a week after they were hit by disastrous and deadly winter weather. Texas is on its own power grid, separate from the rest of the U.S. and does not follow federal regulations. As a result, they were unprepared for below freezing temperatures that were unprecedented for the state. At least 4.3 million Texans lost electricity and millions more were without clean water for days. In response, President Biden approved a major disaster declaration for over 100 counties. Now as temperatures are finally rising and Texas begins recovery efforts, the president will visit. It will be his first trip as president to a disaster zone. He will stop by Houston with his wife and speak to local and state leaders to discuss the storm, relief efforts and continued recovery. He will also visit a Covid-19 health center where vaccines are being distributed. His White House press secretary said, “this is not just impacting Democrats or Republicans, it’s impacting all the people in the state.”
