Postmaster General’s Job May be in Jeopardy as USPS Delays Persist Nationwide
The United States Postal Service is once again in the spotlight and under scrutiny. If your mail appears to be arriving later than usual, you’re not alone. The USPS is still struggling to secure funding from the government and therefore have experienced chronic delays. This has become increasingly concerning for lawmakers who understand on-time deliveries of items such as prescription medicines for veterans, seniors and other Americans who rely on the mail service is imperative. During a hearing yesterday on Capitol Hill, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy acknowledged their failures. He blamed the issues on the pandemic and other ‘persistent’ problems within the service for years. DeJoy said he also hopes to reside over the postal service for “a long time” in order to confront and fix the issues. However, with President Biden expected to diversify the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors, his job may be in jeopardy. By appointing new members to fill the remaining three seats, they would hold a Democratic majority and have the potential to vote DeJoy out of his position.
