City Calls for End to Conway Free Fridge Project
Those behind the Conway Free Fridge project have been officially warned: remove the fridge or face daily fines. Project organizers placed a fridge outside of a business that is full of perishable items. It’s a “take what you need, leave what you can” model to assist those who may be food insecure. Despite it’s charitable nature, officials say the fridge violates state law that prohibits abandoning refrigerators. The city also argued it presents a liability and safety concern as “a small child could climb inside the appliance and become trapped.” There is hope that some sort of agreement could be reached between the two groups.
